History
Tibet is a plateau region in Asia, north of the Himalayas. It is home to the indigenous Tibetan people, and to some other ethnic groups such as Monpas and Lhobas. Tibet is the highest region on earth, with an average elevation of 4,900 metres (16,000 ft). It is sometimes referred to as the roof of the world.
Religion and spirituality is extremely important to the Tibetans and has a strong influence over all aspects of lives; ingrained deeply into their cultural heritage.
Origins
Tibet played an important part in the origins of various heroes.
Amazing-Man (John Aman)
In 1920, an orphaned child named John Aman was chosen by the Tibetan Council of Seven to be trained to both mental and physical perfection. When he was 25, he was ready to fight crime in the outside world.
Green Lama (Jethro Dumont)
Jethro Dumont, a rich resident of New York City, spent ten years in Tibet studying to be a lama and learning many mystical secrets in the process. He receives his Green Lama powers by reciting the mantra "om mani padme hum." Dumont is also endowed with superhuman powers acquired through his scientific knowledge of radioactive salts. Dumont has two alter egos - the crime-fighting Green Lama, and the Buddhist priest Dr. Pali.
After the Battle of Kokura, the Lama returned to Tibet. He stayed there until the elderly Fighting Yank came and confessed that he had trapped their old allies in Pandora's Urn.
The Flame (Gary Preston)
When Gary was a baby, his father Charteris Preston worked as a missionary in China. The elder Preston was washed away in a flood, but managed to save baby Gary by placing him in a basket. The basket was washed downstream to Tibet, where Gary was rescued by a group of lamas. They raised Gary in the lamasary, where they trained him in their mystical ways. Through this training, Gary obtained the ability to control fire and heat.
Phantasmo (Phil Anson)
Phantasmo spent 25 years in Tibet mastering the mystic secrets of the grand high lamas. He returned to America and become a superhero, chose the name Phil Anson as a secret identity. Phantasmo's abilities included astral projection where he was as solid as he'd been inside his body, super strength, flight, the ability to grow to enormous size.
